Infrastructure Minister Rene Hidding is clearly out of his depth when it comes to dealing with the issues of moving freight out of Tasmania.
Labor Leader Bryan Green said Mr Hidding is trying to pretend everything is hunky dory.
“In another embarrassing performance at today’s GBE hearings, Mr Hidding attempted to play down the freight challenges because he has no answers,” Mr Green said.
“The state is being held back by the Government’s inaction and exporters have every right to feel let down.
“Mr Hidding’s attitude is completely disconnected from reality.
“Exporters are crying out for greater capacity, especially for fresh freight and Rene Hidding is sitting on his hands.
“Worse still he is denying there is even a problem with capacity, despite admitting that loaded containers will be left on the wharf.
“He has no plan to deal with freight until the private sector increases capacity around 2017.
“This is an urgent problem. Exporters are already paying a premium to get their products off the island and delays can be infuriating.
“The Liberal Government rightly wants to increase tourist numbers but at the same time exporters are being left in the lurch.”
