Highlights from the 3Q/2014:

• Sawlog prices fell and the GSPI Index was down 4.6% q-o-q. Biggest price reductions were in the Nordic countries and Eastern Europe.

• Softwood pulpwood prices were stable, while hardwood fiber prices fell in key markets. The hardwood fiber price index (HFPI) was down 2.0% from the 2Q/14.

• Global trade of lumber up in 2014. Lower lumber prices in North America, Japan and Russia and up in the Nordic countries and China.

• Exports of wood pellets from Canada to Europe down but higher volumes going to South Korea.

• Special report in the current WRQ: The global family of wood chip carriers is becoming younger and smaller.
