Premier Lara Giddings speaking at Rally’s rage against the cuts
Voting intentions in the State have stabilised in recent months with the Liberals clearly in front and Labor treading water, according to the latest EMRS poll released today.
EMRS Chief Operations Director Samuel Paske said the last quarter appears to have been a period of stabilisation in the polls with little movement.
“The results of the poll show Labor support at 23 per cent, Liberal at 54 per cent and the Greens at 20 per cent after excluding undecided voters,” Mr Paske said.
“The highest level of support remains with the Liberal Party, however there has been a slight decrease of 1 per cent when compared to August 2011 results.
“Support for the Labor Party has increased by 1 per cent since August 2011, while Greens support has increased by 2 per cent since the last poll was conducted in August 2011.
“These changes are minor and within margins of error statistically speaking.
“What the results suggest is there is still a strong level of discontent with the Labor/Green Government and this is supported by 54 per cent of decided voters opting to support the Liberal Party at this point in time.
The poll results show Will Hodgman remains the preference of Tasmanians as their preferred Premier.
“Will Hodgman continues to have the highest level of support as preferred Premier, however his support decreased by 4 per cent when compared to August 2011 results,” Mr Paske said.
“Support for Premier Lara Giddings is at 19 per cent, remaining steady from the result in August 2011 and Nick McKim now stands at 14 per cent, having increased by 1 per cent since August 2011.”

• RESPONSE TO NOVEMBER EMRS POLL
Nick McKim MP
Greens Leader
The Tasmanian Greens today responded to the EMRS poll on state voting intentions for November, saying that the result is unsurprising given the tough budget measures still being rolled out.
Greens Leader Nick McKim MP said the challenge now for all elected representatives was to work together to break the boom-to-bust cycle and put the state’s finances on a sustainable footing.
“Tough decisions had to be made in this year’s State Budget, and it’s clear that many voters are still understandably unhappy with the cost-saving regime that had to be implemented,” Mr McKim said.
“The Greens understand and share voters’ anger over the failure of previous governments to prepare for this situation, which is why we are maintaining our focus on putting forward positive, constructive and long-term solutions.”
“The challenge now for all elected representatives is to work co-operatively to get the state budget back on track, break the boom-bust cycle, and put in place measures that maximise Tasmania’s economic, social and environmental opportunities.”
“The Greens are driven by principles not polls, and we will continue to stand by our election commitment to provide stable government and work to deliver good progressive policy outcomes for all Tasmanians,” Mr McKim said.
