This first novel by Favel Parrett is absolutely wonderful.

It was launched in Tasmania in Thursday but still hasn’t been launched nationally.

I predict it will be the first of many important books by Favel.

Favel lived in Tasmania for several years as a child and this book is set in Tasmania, down south near Dover. She has captured the mood so well.

Her writing is excellent, spare and eloquent, clear and precise.

This book will win prizes and begin comparisons to Tim Winton, E. Annie Proulx and other authors who have masterful prose.

This is a compelling evocative drama that brings to life the Tasmanian bush, the cold, the ocean, and difficult family life and the vulnerability of children.
