SADISTIC and gleeful filmed killings of possums by stabbing, incineration and explosives have left even experienced RSPCA inspector Frank Bingham shocked.
Any thought the 20-year veteran of animal cruelty matters may have had of coasting towards his imminent retirement has been dashed by the current case, from the Deloraine area.
“We seized the computer,” Mr Bingham said.
“It’s possums; they’re beating them to death, incinerating them, disembowelling them and blowing them up with explosive devices, stabbing them to death … ”
“I defy anyone to sit through it.”
As well as the cruelty, purportedly involving young adults, Mr Bingham was also appalled by what he called the “ecstatic, almost orgasmic glee of the participants”.
He likened footage of one person to footage of one of the notorious Columbine High School killers in the US.
Many serious criminals and even serial killers are believed to have started by abusing animals.
Mr Bingham said the case was being investigated and charges had not been laid as yet.
