Police are investigating the deaths of up to 100 kangaroos and wallabies in bushland near Glenorchy.
Glenorchy Police Inspector John Arnold said that the dead animals were found near the refuse disposal site in Jackson Street and nearby Tolosa Park.
It is believed the dead animals had been shot, clubbed and bitten to death.
“We are not ruling out the use of firearms but it is also apparent that dogs are being used to entrap the animals whereby they are killed or later die of capture myopathy,” Inspector Arnold said.
Inspector Arnold said that police were working with Glenorchy City Council to find those responsible.
“Our investigations over the last few weeks are progressing well and we are confident that we are getting closer to catching up with those responsible,” he said.
Police are also investigating similar killings that took place at Tolosa Park.
“It is unrealistic to think that the killing of wildlife in a similar manner in these two locations in not connected.”
