Senator encourages all to participate in online survey to help combat child abuse
Catryna Bilyk, Labor Senator for Tasmania, is encouraging all Australian adults to participate in an online survey being conducted by the National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect.
Senator Bilyk said that child abuse is a disturbing issue but one society must not ignore.
In a passionate speech to the Senate on Tuesday 8th September Senator Bilyk stated:
“Every adult has a moral obligation to be actively concerned for a child’s welfare. In many cases, there is also a legal obligation.
Napcan’s theme this year is Walls protect child abuse, not children – and I strongly agree…..
It is long past the time to break down these walls and help bring child abuse out into the open. We need to act and we need to act now.”
Napcan’s National Engagement Strategy is a quick on-line survey that aims to collect as much information as possible from the community about what Australians know and think in regard to child abuse and neglect. This survey has been designed with the assistance of leading researchers from across the country to gather information which will help in the planning of effective strategies to prevent child abuse and neglect. “Australians needs to start thinking and talking about this issue, not just people who have children, but everyone, to help solve this problem.
Please take a few minutes and participate in the survey so that NAPCAN can get as much information as possible to help formulate strategies to tackle this horrific problem,” said Senator Bilyk.
The survey commenced on Sunday 6th September – to coincide with National Child Protection Week – and is available on the NAPCAN website http://www.napcan.org.au/ until 1 November.
Those people who do not have access to the internet can ring 1800126456 to participate in the survey.
