Australian Greens Senator Nick McKim says the voters of Tasmania must be scratching their heads at the actions of Liberal MPs during last night’s leadership spill.
Bass MP Andrew went in to bat for Tony Abbott through the medium of a Facebook rant, and did all he could to nobble Malcolm Turnbull’s leadership ambitions.
“Tasmanians should be disappointed that Mr Nikolic has invested so much into supporting the failed prime ministership of Tony Abbott, rather than representing the voters of Bass,” Senator McKim said.
“Mr Nikolic last night said the ‘position of Prime Minister is a gift of the Australian people. It should be something which is earned by a vote of the Australian people’.”
“Is he calling for an early election to establish Mr Turnbull’s legitimacy, or will he now quit the party because of its ‘poisonous political culture’?”
“In backing the wrong horse last night, Mr Nikolic has ensured that the people of Bass will find it very hard to get a look in under the new administration.”
