The Liberal State Government must come clean over proposed changes to Tasmanian laws that protect workers’ safety.
Labor Leader Bryan Green today called on Treasurer Peter Gutwein to release details of the planned reforms discussed at a secret meeting with his office.
“Premier Will Hodgman has been kept in the dark over the proposals but now needs to clear the air,” Mr Green said.
“The plan to change Tasmania’s Occupational Health and Safety laws have been revealed in a leaked email to a senior advisor in the Treasurer’s office.
“The Government has been caught out over a secret agenda to overhaul the laws that protect workers’ safety.
“The email has exposed that the changes were to be ‘floated’ in a meeting with Senator Eric Abetz.
“What are the changes being proposed?
“Initially, Mr Hodgman denied any changes were planned but then contradicted himself when he admitted the Government was open to cutting work and safety regulations considered as unnecessary red tape.
“It is clear that the Liberals, from the Premier down, see work safety laws as red tape that needs to be cut.”
