FEDERAL Lyons MP Eric Hutchinson hopes that the change of Liberal Party leadership overnight will build on the momentum of the past two years.

“I make no apology that I was loyal to my leader (Tony Abbott) in last night’s vote,” Mr Hutchinson said.

“Mr Abbott is a decent man who has put Tasmania first.

“I will continue to support my leader, now it is Malcolm Turnbull and hope that the leadership change will build on the momentum of the past two years for Tasmania.”

Mr Hutchinson said that he had always been able to get to the former Prime Minister Tony Abbott and his office and Tasmania had benefited significantly from that.

“My job as the Federal Member for Lyons is to build on that,” he said.

“I will continue walking the corridors of Parliament House, knocking on ministers’ doors and advocating for funding for my Lyons electorate and, with my colleagues, more broadly for the state of Tasmania.

“I will always try and conduct myself in a manner that in years to come I can reflect on positively.

“My job is to stay an effective MP – the thing that I can control in this time of change is to keep working hard for my electorate and I intend to do that.”
