Tasmania is fast rising from the bottom of the map to the top of the nation, after sweeping success again on the national awards stage.

Tasmania’s hospitality sector claimed five awards at the 2015 Australian Hotels Association National Awards for Excellence at the Gold Coast tonight.

Congratulations to all winners from across the state and thank you for helping to make Tasmania a must-see destination that’s famed for its welcoming hospitality. The winners are:

• Quality Hotel Getaway – Best Mid-Range Accommodation

• Saffire Freycinet – Best Deluxe Accommodation

• Frogmore Creek – Best Restaurant, Regional

• Country Club Tasmania – Best Gaming Venue, Regional

• Tall Timbers – Best Sporting Entertainment Venue (joint winner)

This triumph is a testament to our tremendous hospitality industry which works tirelessly to ensure locals and the record number of visitors travelling to our state have a memorable experience and every reason to return.

The success follows the recent domination by Tasmanians at the Australian Farmer of the Year Awards and the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards, which is putting Tasmania firmly on the map.

Our hospitality sector is the backbone of Tasmania’s visitor economy, employing more than 20,000 Tasmanians at more than 2,000 cafes, restaurants, hotels and other accommodation venues.

This Government is determined to continue to work with the industry to ensure it grows from strength to strength, and to help reach our target of attracting 1.5 million visitors to our state each year by 2020, which the industry tells us will create 8,000 new jobs.
Will Hodgman, Premier Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events
