Another day, another union lie. The Hodgman Liberal Government has invested an additional $5 million in strengthening biosecurity since coming to Government.
In the absence of a decent opposition the unions are attempting to step into the role, but this must be seen for all that it is; shameless scaremongering.
The numbers are clear:
• We have invested an additional $2 million in three additional detector dog teams to boost frontline biosecurity at our airports and sea terminals;
• We have invested $2 million in modern biosecurity infrastructure including laboratory upgrades, visitor signage and post border control infrastructure;
• $900,000 to strengthen biosecurity across the state, bolster frontline biosecurity and better protect Tasmania’s relative disease free status;
• The permanent addition of a quarantine clearance process at the TT-Line’s Port of Melbourne depot to speed up and strengthen the process for passengers and vehicles.
Without doubt, under the Hodgman Liberal Government, tourism numbers are growing, our exports are increasing and the demand for our fresh, safe and premium produce is excelling.
This is good news for our state, it’s just a shame the unions are hell-bent on turning everything into bad news.
As a Government we are committed to continuing to work with the industry and other organisations to ensure we support their needs as they change with the fluxes each season and in the long term as the demand inevitably grows.
Jeremy Rockliff, Minister for Primary Industries and Water
