“I call upon the Andrews government to reverse its decision to cancel religious instruction during school hours,” FamilyVoice Victoria State Director Peter Stevens said today.
“The Christian faith has played a key role in the development of our Western democracy. Victorian children need to understand our nation’s roots – which are reflected in our literature and our religious celebrations, as well as our system of government.
“Holidays like Easter and Christmas, and our culture’s stories – like David vs Goliath and the Good Samaritan – cannot be understood without some knowledge of Scripture. Relationships education, which the education minister says will replace religious instruction, is a poor alternative to learning about the teaching of Jesus who said Love one another as I have loved you (John 15:12).”
