Tourism money arrives way too late

Today’s tourism funding announcement by the Liberal Government is massively overdue.

Shadow Tourism Minister Scott Bacon said it is funding promised by both sides of politics at the 2013 Federal Election as part of the Tasmanian Forest Agreement.

“This is not new money, it’s funding that is well overdue,” Mr Bacon said.

“It’s taken the Liberal Governments, both State and Federal, almost 3 years to get their act together.

“Labor has asked about this money in Budget Estimates over the last two years.

“The Liberals are trying to re-badge the funding to remove all references to the Forest Agreement and the time it’s taken to make the money available.

“This money could have already been helping our tourism sector grow.

“The delay is completely unacceptable.

“There’s pressure on now to guarantee the funding delivers significant economic benefit for Tasmania.”
