Ta Ann jobs boost for North West
The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to rebuilding our forestry industry and creating jobs.
The opening of Ta Ann’s $15 million plywood mill in Smithton is great news for the North West region, for jobs and the economy.
It is expected that 120 full time jobs will be created when the mill is fully operational, which Ta Ann says will inject up to $40 million additional annual value into the local economy.
Ta Ann will be selling their value-added veneer product largely to the domestic construction industry and has an opportunity to win a market share of premium plywood, with imported plywood currently accounting for the majority of the Australian market.
Ta Ann is to be congratulated for their decision to further invest in Tasmania and the confidence they have shown in the future of our forest industry.
I also acknowledge the Federal Government for honouring their election commitment to support this proposal with $7.5 million in funding.
The Hodgman Liberal Government has a Plan to rebuild the forest industry, drive economic growth and create jobs and we are already seeing that under this Government, Tasmania is heading in the right direction.
