Students hold National Day of Action against deregulation

Posted on

Students across the country are coming out today against the federal governments continued plans to deregulate university fees, funding cuts and privatisation in rallies organised by the National Union of Students.

“The government have made it clear they will not abandon their malicious agenda to deregulate university fees and students will be continuing to make it clear they will never accept the proposed changes”

Deregulation would see students stuck with a lifetime of debt they have no chance or repaying. This will be particularly fraught for women students who are already disproportionately affected by debt.

“Despite the community, students, the NTEU and the senate rejecting these “reforms” Christopher Pyne continues to show contempt for students and has spent 150k in consulting fees to try to pass his unpopular bill.

This wanton waste of taxpayer money shows how desperate this government is to saddle students with huge fees.”

Coupled with the governments proposed wait on Newstart, which the government have admitted they have no evidence will work to encourage young people to attain work, NUS is outraged by the cruel and unjustified polices of this government.

Students will be taking action and are calling on this government to abandon it’s attack young people.
