Royal Hobart Fine Food Awards
Tasmania proudly promotes its world class produce and the 2015 Royal Hobart Fine Food Awards are a key event on the Australian culinary calendar.
This evening I was delighted to present, on behalf of the Minister for Primary Industries and Water, Jeremy Rockliff, this year’s Minister’s Encouragement Award to Port Arthur Lavender for their Lavender Salmon Gravlax.
Clare and Brendan Dean grow, harvest and process more than 16,000 lavender plants which are used in specialty oil, skincare and craft products. It is also used in a diverse range of unique food and beverages that are available at their visitor centre and restaurant, which opened in October 2014.
The paddock to plate agri-tourism experience is a fitting recipient of this Award, which was introduced last year to encourage excellence in innovation and product development across the food sector in Tasmania.
The Liberal Government is committed to identifying and supporting opportunities in premium food production, which is a key focus of our Cultivating Prosperity in Agriculture policy.
The 2015 Royal Hobart Fine Food Awards has involved the judging of more than 1,500 entries from 30 July to 2 August.
Congratulations to Port Arthur Lavender and all of the award winners as well as the Royal Agricultural Society of Tasmania for yet another successful Fine Food Awards.
