Labor today accused Premier Will Hodgman of misleading the Tasmanian Parliament in the cover-up over the alleged credit card fraud by Damien Mantach.
“Will Hodgman is refusing to say when or how the $48,000 was paid back to the Liberal Party.
“Under the Commonwealth Electoral Act, in 2008 political parties were required by law to disclose any payment over $10,000.
“Mr Hodgman told Parliament that only political donations have to be disclosed but he is clearly wrong.
“Mr Hodgman either does not understand the law or has deliberately misled Parliament in an attempt to cover up the Mantach affair.
“There is no record of a payment to the Liberal Party from Mr Mantach which was required under the Electoral Act.
Mr Green has today written to the Commission seeking an investigation into whether the Liberal Executive of the time, which included Mr Hodgman, lodged a false and misleading return.
“The questions Mr Hodgman must answer are how and when the money was paid back? If so, where is the receipt?
“If Mr Hodgman doesn’t know, he should ask the current Liberal State Director, Sam McQuestin, who was treasurer of the executive at the time.
“It appears there is a cover-up at the highest levels of the Tasmanian Liberal Party and Will Hodgman should refer the affair to police.
