No confidence in Jacquie Petrusma and she should resign

Posted on

Human Resources Minister Jacquie Petrusma has lost the confidence of Tasmanians and should immediately resign.

“Ms Petrusma has admitted failure and accepted responsibility for the child protection crisis on the North-West Coast and must go,” Mr Green said.

“Under the principle of Ministerial Responsibility, if Ms Petrusma does not resign Will Hodgman has no alternative but to sack her.

“Mr Hodgman’s pathetic defence of Ms Petrusma during today’s no confidence motion in Parliament has left the Minister swinging in breeze.

“Mr Hodgman failed to counter any of the damning allegations against Ms Petrusma.

“Ms Petrusma has dodged questions in Parliament all week and Tasmanians deserve to know the truth.

“Ms Petrusma has admitted she met at least twice with her department in the weeks leading up to the crisis been made public.

“It is outrageous that 151 child protection notifications could ignored for so long and it is inconceivable that the department did not advise the minister.

“Ms Petrusma is trying to use her call for an ‘urgent report’ as a cover for her incompetence.

“The undisputed fact is Ms Petrusma’s Department and her Ministerial office knew of the crisis.”
