TFGA President, Wayne Johnston, said today that he will be meeting with the Honourable Rene Hidding, Minister for Police, to discuss the TFGA’s concerns around rural crime.

Mr Johnston said he was encouraged by the Minister’s recent comments when the Minister stated that rural crime was as important and significant as those crimes committed in urban environments.

The TFGA has been concerned for some time about the rising crime within rural communities and the seemingly disregard for the law and private property. Mr Johnston said “we look forward to constructively working with the government and Minister Hidding to find strategies to deal with this ongoing problem that has plagued many rural communities over recent years”.

The government’s strong commitment to law and order and recent increase in police numbers are important elements as we move forward. However, rural crime poses unique problems and additional strategies will need to be developed.
