The Mental Health Council of Tasmania (MHCT) would like to extend a warm welcome to suicide
prevention organisation R U OK?, who will be visiting Hobart today as part of the organisation’s
campaign Thanks For Asking.

The event, which marks the first time the national R U OK? Team has visited Tasmania, will take
place at Parliament Lawns from 11.30am – 1.30pm on Monday 31st August (today).

The Thanks For Asking campaign encourages everyone to take the time to say thanks to someone
who has supported them through a tough time in their life.

The MHCT welcomes the opportunity to support this worthwhile national campaign and to help inspire
people in the state to share their stories and spread the word about the benefits of discussing mental
health.

The MHCT CEO, Connie Digolis, said that encouraging meaningful discussions surrounding mental
health and suicide in our Tasmanian community is a simple but practical way for everyone to play their
part in suicide prevention.

“It’s important that we take the time out of our busy lives to make sure the people around us aren’t
alone when they’re going through a difficult time. With so many Tasmanians experiencing mental
health issues each year, it’s essential that we recognise just how beneficial a question like ‘are you
okay?’ can be,” said, Ms Digolis.

The event also offers the chance to show support for organisations that represent the Tasmanian
Suicide Prevention Community Network (TSPCN), and to raise awareness of the valuable suicide
prevention initiatives that are provided by organisations across the state.
