Hot contender for 22nd August Lufra to Lookout Hillclimb

image

The Lufra to Lookout motor Hillclimb starts at 10am, August 22, at Lufra Hotel and Apartments, with heats running all day through to 4pm. Once the Heats are over winners will be announced at the AfterParty being held at the Lufra from 4pm.

Now for those that are still guessing, the Hillclimb is a motorsports event where competitors nominate their best time to complete the challenging course presented by Pirates Bay Drive. Any sort of vehicle can compete, but drivers must be licensed to enter.

For each hillclimb run on which the competitor records an elapsed time less than his/her nominated time, a penalty of two points per second of the difference between the recorded time and the nominated time shall apply, and for each run greater than the nominated time a penalty of one point per second shall apply for the difference between the recorded time and the nominated time. The winner is the competitor who has completed the required number of hillclimb runs and has accrued the least penalty points.

Individual scores will be relayed to posting screens at the Hotel throughourt the heats.

This event is a joint project between Club Motori Italia, Lufra and our Foundation Sponsor TDT and other partners in this event.

We expect a mix of vetwran, street and modified for Hillclimb vehicles competing.

There will be two official viewing spots; Lufra startline at 380 Pirates Bay Drive, Eaglehawk Neck and the Finish Line only accessible via the startline via the free bus transfer running on the 1/2 hour or so from the Hotel.

Pirates Bay Drive will be closed between the Lufra Hotel and the Pirates Bay Lookout. Only competitors and authorised traffic (including the coach) will be able to access the Hillclimb course and will ONLY be able to travel uphill. Any cars that access Pirates Bay Drive from the top will only be able to go as far as the Lookout, where they will see the incredible view as well as Competitor Cars as they leave the course.

For public access to the beginning of the Hillclimb enter Pirates Bay Drive just above the ‘Neck’ or at the southern end of Pirates Bay Drive bringing you to the Lufra Start Line. We ask that you take the direction of traffic marshals who will assist with park you vehicle, allowing you to go to the Hotel area and see the cars rallying around the hotel. To see some of the cars already entered follow this link to Lufra’s facebook album: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1674485326116090.1073741832.1405519006346058&type=3

At the Hotel you will be able to mingle with competitors, grab a coffee, snack a beverage or bubbly at the cafe where you will be able to overlook the diplay of competitors ans special display cars on the Hotel lawns. From there you will be able to board the coach leaving the hotel on the 1/2 hour or so taking passengers through the course and to the Finish Line official viewing point. At that point the local Rotarians will be serving coffee and snacks.

The coach will pick up again bringing passengers back to the Lufra or parking areas. Thank you Roger Self for supporting this event with your FREE coach service.

The AfterParty starts at 4pm in the Lufra Cafe area overlooking the Start Line. We have engaged Billy Whitton and Jamie Taylor to provide Live Music from 4pm and at the Cafe. Between 4 and 6pm we reckon we will get through the presentations for King of the Climbers, and other Award getters.
