Hodgman second to the ball on AFL academy

Posted on

In what’s becoming quite the trend, the Liberal Government has echoed Labor’s call for an elite AFL academy in Tasmania.

Labor Leader Bryan Green highlighted the need to push for an academy during Labor’s reply to the Budget.

“The Premier called it a thought bubble at the time, now it’s his number one priority when he meets with the AFL Commission,” Mr Green said.

“We welcome the change of heart but it’s becoming a theme in the Liberals’ playbook.

“The Government has now adopted ideas from Labor on education, preventative health and football.

“Establishing an elite academy in Tasmania is an important step towards Tasmania having its own team in the AFL.

“Our young footballers deserve the same opportunity to play at the highest level as players in any other part of Australia.”
