Hodgman gives up on health and education funding

Posted on

Will Hodgman appears to have walked away from his promise to get back the $2.1 billion cut from health and education by Tony Abbott.

Shadow Treasurer Scott Bacon said the Premier said one thing before COAG and another thing after.

“The Premier said he was going to COAG to get the $2.1 billion back, now he says that’s a “fanciful” idea,” Mr Bacon said.

“What isn’t fanciful is the pressure on our schools and hospitals.

“The thousands of Tasmanians waiting for elective surgery want to see our health system properly funded.

“On Tony Abbott’s first visit to Tasmania since COAG, Will Hodgman has rolled over and given up on getting the funding back.

“It would be interesting to know what Treasurer Peter Gutwein thinks of the Premier’s performance, given he was the person most loudly demanding the funding be returned.

“There’s a big difference between the Treasurer saying “we want our money back” and the Premier declaring it “fanciful”.”
