The Hodgman Liberal Government’s refusal to acknowledge the need for stronger and more transparent regulation of fish farms could jeopardise Tasmania’s clean, green brand.
Minister Rockliff dodged a question today about a cap on fish stocking rates in Macquarie Harbour and department plans to avoid fish disease and deaths.
Playing politics with this issue will not help the industry achieve community acceptance. The government should be ensuring industry regulation is transparent and free of conflict to ensure its long-term sustainability.
The Greens Notice of motion to move fish farm planning and regulatory decisions from the department will be debated at 5.00pm today.
