FAMILY FOOD PATCH FUNDING MUST CONTINUE
Senator Helen Polley has today called on the Member for Bass, Member for Braddon and Member for Lyons to ensure federal funding for the Family Food Patch initiative.
Family Food Patch creates opportunities for our most vulnerable families. It brings people together to have a discussion about healthy living and eating. The initiative provides an environment where families can prepare, cook and eat fresh local produce and engage with physical activity.
“This program is wonderfully designed, it’s simple and it empowers people. The entire community should be having discussions about healthy living and eating and this program does it in a supportive environment. The program is targeted at children so they learn from a young age healthy habits,” Senator Polley said.
Funding for Family Food Patch will not continue after June 2016.
“Today I am demanding that the Federal and State Liberal government’s discuss the importance of Family Food Patch and the Abbott Government commit to funding this vital initiative,” Senator Polley said.
“We need to keep striving for a healthier and happier Tasmania, this program does that, it’s social and economic benefits are boundless. It’s that simple, don’t cut the funding”, Senator Polley said.
