The Hodgman Liberal Government’s $26 million investment in family violence initiatives has been welcomed as a nation-leading commitment to tackling this social ill.

It is very disappointing that Labor’s Lara Giddings has chosen to begin playing politics on family violence.

Her incorrect assertions that the $26 million is not new money are a disappointing and false attempt to diminish this incredibly important piece of work to address family violence.

All of the $26 million announced in association with the Safe Homes, Safe Families action plan is new money, and contrary to Ms Giddings claims there has been no reduction to the budget funding for positions in the Family Violence Counselling and Support Service.
