The Liberal Government is making a mockery of Tasmania’s parliamentary system by undermining the Legislative Council’s role as the House of review.
“The Government is using the Legislative Council to introduce new legislation into the Parliament as a matter of course rather than the exception to the rule, Mr Llewellyn said.
“If the Legislative Council is to be a true House of review then it should be able to debate Government legislation after it has passed the Lower House
“What the Liberals are doing is introducing legislation through the Legislative Council and arrogantly thinking it won’t need to be amended.
“If the Legislative Council is not a House of review then why have it all?
“Members of the Legislative Council should continue to have the opportunity to review legislation and consider amendments.
“What the Government is attempting to do is an abuse of process and Labor will continue to hold it to account.”
