Tasmanians can voice their outrage at the threat of skyrocketing power bills with the launch of a petition in support of retaining Tariff 41.

The Liberal Government’s own energy adviser has warned that scrapping the discount tariff could increase power bills by as much as a $1000 a year.

Labor Leader Bryan Green said the Opposition is against scrapping the tariff and has invited energy users to speak up.

“The petition will give people a chance to send a clear message to Matthew Groom,” Mr Green said.

“Tasmanians deserve to understand the consequences of removing Tariff 41, which provides a discount for hot water and installed heating like heat pumps.

“Many households have invested with Tariff 41 specifically in mind.

“And we know that some people are delaying building projects due to the uncertainty around its future.

“I encourage Tasmanians who want to see Tariff 41 remain intact to sign the petition.”
