The latest revelations about Bronwyn Bishop going to Nowra and Young are surely the final straw. Tripping all over Australia for political fundraisers and who knows what else at taxpayers’ expense is patently wrong.

The Member for Mackellar is undoubtedly a serial abuser of parliamentary travel arrangements and entirely unfit to be the Speaker of the House of Representatives. She must step down immediately from the position and repay every cent.

Just as quickly the investigation into Bronwyn Bishop’s travel claims must be taken up by the Australian Federal Police. Yes, parliamentary travel arrangements should be tightened. But that in no way alters the fact that Mrs Bishop has been certifying, as official travel, trips that any reasonable person would understand to be principally of a private nature. In my opinion this is fraud and should be dealt with as a possible criminal matter.

The AFP should also investigate the questionable business dealings between Bronwyn Bishop and her office, and aircraft charter companies.

I remain firmly committed to moving a no confidence motion in Bronwyn Bishop as Speaker in cooperation with Clive Palmer when the Parliament resumes.
Andrew Wilkie, Independent Member for Denison
