TWWHA Management Plan Strikes a Sensible Balance
Tasmanians expect the Government to act sensibly and responsibly to promote appropriate tourism opportunities and create jobs, and protect the unique wilderness values of our natural areas.
This is what the Liberal Government is determined to deliver and we are confident the draft TWWHA Management Plan strikes the right balance.
Bob Brown and the Greens fail to acknowledge that UNESCO actively encourages managers of World Heritage Areas to promote and develop sustainable tourism.
The updating of the Management Plan does not change the existing state and Commonwealth legislation which specific uses or proposals within the TWWHA must comply with.
The Draft Plan maintains the important role of both the state and federal governments in ensuring the unique natural and cultural heritage values are protected. Both the Tasmanian Government and the Commonwealth Government have made clear our full commitment to protecting these values.
Bob Brown’s comments are clearly at the extreme end of debate. They are deliberately inflammatory and sensationalised in an attempt to create division in the community.
The majority of Tasmanians understand that sensible and appropriate tourism offerings can be balanced with protection of wilderness and cultural heritage values. They have moved on from Bob Brown’s style of anti-everything, inflammatory debate.
