The Liberal Government is committed to improving educational outcomes, and it is clear Tasmanians are very supportive and keen to be a part of this.
Since inviting Tasmanians to have their say on our review of the Tasmanian Education Act over three months ago we have received more than 230 responses.
It is extremely pleasing to receive this volume of valuable feedback, which demonstrates Tasmanians share in our Government’s desire to improve education across the state.
Through this consultation process the community has had an opportunity to reflect on the value of education, and ways we can strengthen and build on our education system.
I sincerely thank all individuals, groups and stakeholders who took the time to discuss and share their ideas, knowledge and feedback with us.
Their insights will help in the development of a new Act that will ensure we have modern delivery models to reflect contemporary educational practices and make sure it meets the needs of our students into the future.
A process is now underway to assess and consider each and every response. Following this, we will use the feedback to inform the development of an exposure draft of the Bill for the new Act. This will be made publicly available for community consideration.
We are committed to consulting with key education stakeholders and the Tasmanian community as a key element of this important review – it is vital that Tasmania’s education legislation is current, contemporary and best meets the needs of our students into the future.
Education is the cornerstone of our plan to build Tasmania’s economy and create a highly skilled, job ready generation.
Jeremy Rockliff, Minister for Education and Training
