Labor’s union powerbrokers are set to replace Bryan Green with David O’Byrne as leader of the state Labor Party.

It is reported in today’s Mercury that while Ms Giddings has denied the claims, Labor Party sources say she “will” quit her role as Labor’s only Franklin MP.

This means that Mr O’Byrne, who has long coveted the role as Labor leader, will be parachuted back into Parliament to challenge the poorly performing Mr Green for the Labor leadership.

Mr O’Byrne is currently head of one of Australia’s most left-wing unions, United Voice, and was a strong supporter of the Labor-Green deal.

He has a dismal record as Minister – as Minister for Economic Development, unemployment sky-rocketed to 8.4 percent. As Minister for Infrastructure, he sat on his hands while Bass Strait freight issues festered, and as Minister for Police, he sacked 108 of them.

The test now is for Bryan Green – how will he respond to this direct threat to his leadership?
