Liberals stalling on assistance promised to West Coast
Labor Leader Bryan Green today called on the Government to detail what projects it will fund under a package promised to the West Coast in the wake of mining job losses.
“A final report from a working group chaired by Adam Brooks has not been released and is now overdue,” Mr Green said.
“If the report has been done, why hasn’t it been released?
“Mr Brooks has been stalling for long enough. It’s time he told the people of the West Coast what projects will be delivered and how many jobs will actually be created.
“All we’ve heard from Mr Brooks so far is that the Government will try to fund the proposals and that they could create jobs.
“People are becoming frustrated by the Government’s lack of urgency.
“The Government has brought forward existing commitments for road works and while funding promised for walking tracks and mountain bike trails is welcome, it has done little more.
“The unspent $16 million Federal Government grant to Cadbury for which there is still no business case should be redirected to the West Coast to stimulate investment and job creation.
“Labor has consulted with the West Coast community and put forward a range of initiatives but the Government is too pig-headed to progress them.”
