Labor absolutely supports increasing visitor experiences in Tasmania’s Wilderness World Heritage Area.
“Greater access and sensible, appropriate tourism projects have Labor’s backing,” Labor Shadow Minister for Environment, Parks and Heritage Craig Farrell said.
“The pressure is now on the Liberal Government to get this right.
“So far in government the Liberals track record on proper and inclusive consultation is appalling.
“They cannot afford to squander this opportunity by letting their obsession with conflict get in the way of proper consultation.
“Tasmania cannot afford this to turn into an “us vs them” debate.
“The Greens and their supporters also have an obligation to not sensationalise what’s being proposed.”
Mr Farrell cautioned the Government against undermining Tasmania’s wilderness brand.
“Tourism leaders recognise that Tasmania’s wilderness is a drawcard in its own right.
“In government, Labor had a strong record of supporting appropriate projects like the Three Capes Track and Pumphouse Point
“These are world class tourism ventures that generate invaluable exposure and employment for Tasmania and help to increase visitor access to our national parks and World Heritage Area.
“Labor will thoroughly consider the Government’s draft report, including the proposed zoning changes, and respond in due course.”
