Gutwein takes his eye off the ball

Posted on

While Peter Gutwein continues to obsess about the work of his political opponents, crucial jobs are being lost in his own electorate.

Deputy Labor Leader Michelle O’Byrne says news that Lion is shedding jobs at James Boag’s is very concerning.

“These are vital jobs in an important sector of our economy, unfortunately it’s bound to have a ripple effect to other sectors, including transport,” Ms O’Byrne said.

“When did Peter Gutwein learn about the job losses?

“Did he know yesterday afternoon when he called a press conference to talk about Labor?

“Either he did know, and deliberately chose not to share the information with the public, or he’s been left in the dark.

“The Treasurer of Tasmania should be aware of significant job losses, especially when they occur in his electorate.

“Peter Gutwein’s obsession with playing politics seems to be getting in the way of his actual responsibilities.”

Ms O’Byrne called on the Government to explain what it was doing to prevent the job losses.

“During the last term Lion spent millions expanding operations at Boag’s.

“The Liberal Government should be fighting to protect every single job in our economy.”
