Greens Hypocrisy

Posted on

The hysterical and misleading claims made by extreme environmentalists does little to engender confidence in their willingness to engage in a mature debate about sensible and appropriate tourism opportunities.

In the space of just five years, environmental extremists have back flipped in their support for appropriate tourism facilities and experiences in the State’s wilderness.

In their “Forest Transition Strategy”, released in 2010, Kim Booth and Nick McKim supported tourism in our parks and reserves.

” Expanded reserves and tourism experiences will provide visitors with the maximum opportunity to experience Tasmania’s wild places secure in the knowledge that none of the
State’s world-class landscapes and ecosystems are being compromised through inappropriate and short-sighted
Development” (Page 5)

“It appears that the provision of a high standard of accommodation and associated travel services is a necessary precursor to the development of specific localities for ecotourism and adventure-style activities” (Page 13)

“Significant resources are required to develop infrastructure to showcase the best of Tasmania’s newly reserved forests.” (Page 17)

Why the change of heart?

It is obvious extreme environmentalists are only interested in reigniting the old conservation wars. They thrive on conflict and that is why they are now opposed to sensible and appropriate tourism experiences in our wilderness which just five years ago they supported.

All Tasmanians are encouraged to comment on the Draft World Heritage Area management plan.

Tasmanians expect the Government to act sensibly and responsibly to promote appropriate tourism opportunities and create jobs, and protect the unique wilderness values of our natural areas.

This is what the Liberal Government is determined to deliver and we are confident the draft TWWHA Management Plan strikes the right balance.
