… TO HEAR WHY MARRIAGE EQUALITY MATTERS

Marriage equality advocates want Luke Foley to meet same-sex couples and their children so he can hear for himself why marriage equality matters.

Mr Foley, a committed Catholic due to be made NSW Labor leader tomorrow, has previously voted against allowing same-sex couples to marry on the basis that he was raised by a single mother and lacked a father male role model.

Australian Marriage Equality national director, Rodney Croome said,

“Luke Foley is out of step with Labor values, public opinion and the march of history.”

“Mr Foley, of all people, should realise the role of government is not to discriminate against some families but to give all families equal legal rights and respect.”

“We urge him to meet with same-sex couples and their children so he can hear for himself why marriage equality matters.”

Mr Foley will be the only state of federal Labor leader who opposes marriage equality.

“Labor cannot say it whole-heartedly backs equality and dignity for all, while it instals leaders who oppose marriage equality”, Mr Croome said.
