“The hate-fuelled attack against this family was an attack on all Tasmanians who want to live in a safe and inclusive community.”
– Rodney Croome

Gay rights spokesperson and Tasmanian of the Year, Rodney Croome, has called on Tasmania’s political, civic and religious leaders to condemn a gay-hate attack in the state’s south.

The Sandford home of Lavinia Pike, Kelly Kluga and their daughter, Bella Kenworthy, was vandalised with words including “lesos”, “sluts” and “poofta” while the family was living elsewhere following recent flooding.”

Mr Croome said,

“It is sickening to see this kind of hate attack in Tasmania, especially against a family that is already struggling.”

“The hate-fuelled attack against this family was an attack on all Tasmanians who want to live in a safe and inclusive community.”

“I call on political, civic and religious leaders to condemn homophobic hatred.”

“Such attacks are less likely when the Tasmanian community speaks with one voice against them.”

Police are investigating the attack which also involved burglary.
