Tasmania’s booming tourism industry has received yet another global accolade with Lonely Planet putting the Three Capes Track at the top of its hottest new travel experiences around the world.
The Liberal Government has a target of attracting 1.5 million visitors to Tasmania each year by 2020, which the industry says represents 8000 jobs.

The Three Capes Track was already on target to be one of the most anticipated new attractions in Australia in 2015, and with this recognition from Lonely Planet we can now expect people from all over the world to be awaiting their chance to come here and experience it.

The track is anticipated to be opened for walkers from November 2015.

Tasmanian and Commonwealth Governments have committed $29.3 million to construct the Three Capes Track; $16.8 million from the Tasmanian Government and $12.5 million from the Australian Government.

Once opened the Three Capes Track will become just one of many tourist attractions bringing people to Tasmania from all over the world.

Last year Lonely Planet ranked Tasmania in the top four travel destinations in the world. We are already seeing positive signs that view is shared by travellers the world over, with the industry saying they are experiencing an exceptionally busy tourism season so far.

The Liberal Government is committed to capitalising on Tasmania’s competitive advantages, including our extraordinary natural assets. That’s why we have sought Expressions of Interest for sensible and appropriate tourism offerings, like the Three Capes Track, in our National Parks and World Heritage Area.

Thirty-seven EOIs for tourism offerings in our National Parks and reserves were received and we look forward to assessing these and having more world-class tourism experiences underway during 2015.
