Sports resorts and sporting holidays are on the rise as one of the hottest travel trends for 2015.

Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa, in the New South Wales Snowy Mountains is leading this charge with its dedicated mountain bike facilities and jam-packed sporting events calendar featuring a variety of sports including the Oceanic Cross Triathlon Championships & Multi Sport Festival, trail running weekends and the Snowies Mountain Bike Festival.

The January-opening of the Thredbo Valley track, a 17km shared use walking and mountain biking track linking Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa to Thredbo Resort is expected to motivate more outdoor and sporting enthusiasts to the Snowy Mountain region.

Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa General Manager, Anthony Cleary said the new Thredbo Valley Track was a great way to get out and experience the natural Alpine environment.

“The track caters for walkers and riders of all skill levels and has been designed so visitors can either complete the entire 17kms or just experience a short section of the track,” said Mr Cleary.

“Coasting down the track from Thredbo to Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa is one of the most exhilarating things I’ve ever done on a mountain bike.

“The combination of the wide track, easy to navigate terrain and the scenery, incorporating five impressive bridges crossing the Thredbo River makes the ride something families with older children could enjoy together.”

He said more experienced riders had the choice of different routes to challenge their skills.

“For example, there are three tracks of different grades on the section between Thredbo Diggings and the Ski Tube.”

Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa has a fleet of high-performance, male and female single or dual suspension Specialized mountain bikes for hire. There are also four sizes of children bikes including balance bikes for toddlers.

“We offer a shuttle bus service to take guests from Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa to Thredbo Village for their downhill ride back to the Resort,” said Mr Cleary.

“The rugged beauty and the craggy challenges offered by the landscape around Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa have been a long-time draw card for guests.

“The link between two world-class sports resorts is going to strengthen the appeal of the Snowy Mountains to outdoor and sports enthusiasts as well as improve the region’s offering to attract more international guests.”
