MONEY FOR AGED CARE IN LYONS

Posted on

MORE than $3 million will flow to aged care facilities and care packages across Tasmania’s Lyons electorate from federal government aged care funding announced today.

Federal Lyons MP Eric Hutchinson said that a total of more than $2 million in capital grants money would go to Tandara Lodge Community Care’s residential facility, at Sheffield and Corumbene, at New Norfolk.

The two organisations would receive a further $885,000 between them for new residential care places.

At the same time, Toosey, at Longford, will receive $130,000 for seven extra level two community aged care packages and another level three home care package.

Tandara Lodge gets $995,000 for capital works as well as money for residential care places while Corumbene has successfully applied for $1.1 million for capital grant money as well as funding for extra residential care places.

Mr Hutchinson said that the additional funding would help meet demand for quality aged care services in the community.

“This highly competitive Aged Care Approvals funding round demonstrates renewed interest in aged care following recent changes aimed at supporting service viability, reducing their compliance burden and increasing business flexibility,’’ Mr Hutchinson said.

The new aged care funding in Lyons is part of more than $836 million being spent around Australia, announced today.

It will see more than 17,800 extra residential and home care places funded nationally to meet the growing demand for aged care.

The funding application process was highly competitive with two applications received for every available residential care place and 17 applications received for every available home care place, Mr Hutchinson said.

He said that it was wonderful to see the big funding spend in Lyons from the 2014 aged care approval program.

“It will help meet residential aged care demand across the electorate and support people to stay in their own homes longer,’’ Mr Hutchinson said.
