Liberals have no plan to keep power prices under control
The Liberal Government has abandoned its promise to help keep power prices down by ditching its commitment to retail competition in Tasmania’s electricity market.
“In opposition, Matthew Groom called for full retail competition every day of the week and said it was all so easy,” Labor Leader Bryan Green said.
“Now Mr Groom is the Minister he’s sitting on his hands because it’s all too hard.
“Who could forget Mr Groom political theatrics in past GBE hearings when he blasted Aurora over power pricing?
“Matthew Groom is a weak and deceitful Minister without the strength of his so-called convictions.
“Instead, Mr Groom is quick to claim credit for the major energy reforms undertaken by the previous government which drove down power prices.
“The Liberals are doing absolutely nothing to ensure the trend of lower electricity costs for consumers is maintained.
“Mr Groom is content to just tinker around the edges.
“Despite the Liberals strong support for the sale of Aurora’s customer base in opposition, Mr Groom is now showing no urgency whatsoever to pursue competition in the Tasmanian retail market.
“Mr Groom admitted himself today that he’ll just sit back and see what happens.
“That is not a plan to deal with the challenges facing Tasmania’s energy sector or to keep power prices under control.”
