Labor Leader Bryan Green today accused the Liberal Government of going missing when Tasmania’s mining industry needs it most.

“Resources Minister Paul Harris and wannabe Minister Adam Brooks are presiding over a collapse in mineral exploration investment and have no answers,” Mr Green said.

“Just because the Liberals say Tasmania is open for business doesn’t mean investors will be knocking down our doors.

“Mineral exploration under Labor was at record levels despite the likes of Adam Brooks doing everything he could to talk down the prospects of the industry.

“The boot is now on the other foot and the Liberals have been found out.

“Instead of being prophets of doom for the mining industry, the Liberals must now get out and be more pro-active to help secure investment.

“A good start would be to assist with the Avebury mine to ensure it re-opens, end the uncertainty over the future of Mineral Resources Tasmania and stop sending mixed messages over potential shale oil exploration.

“The mining industry is doing it tough because of the exchange rate and lower commodity prices but it’s time for the government to step up and show it’s not all talk and no action.”
