Labor Leader Bryan Green said today the Liberal Government’s ‘buy local’ slogan has been exposed as a sham.

“The Liberal’s buy local mantra is another hollow promise,” Mr Green said.

“The Liberals are overlooking Tasmanian companies bidding for Government contracts.

“The decision to award a Victorian firm a $300,000 contract to provide health and safety audit services ahead of three Tasmanian companies clearly shows the Government is not living up to its promise.

“This clearly demonstrates the Government’s ‘local benefits test’ isn’t worth the paper it’s written on.

“Adam Brooks made a great song and dance about buying local before the election but he has failed to follow through with the slogan.

“Does Mr Brooks support this contract going to a Victorian firm?

“Mr Brooks gave businesses around Tasmania the impression they would have the inside running on Government contracts.

Mr Green called on the Liberals to assure Tasmanian companies that further contracts will not be handed to interstate companies.

“Mr Brooks needs to prove his buy local promise is not just hot air.”
