Liberals abandon Midland Highway promise
After years of promising Tasmanians a four-lane Midland Highway, Infrastructure Minister Rene Hidding has finally admitted the policy was based on nothing.
Shadow Infrastructure Minister Craig Farrell said Liberals at both the state and federal level have misled Tasmanians for too long.
“The four-lane Midland Highway has gone from an iron clad promise on a giant billboard to an ‘aspiration’,”Mr Farrell said.
“It has been a complete con.
“Rene Hidding is now admitting it’s got zero chance of happening in the next ten years.
“In opposition both Will Hodgman and Tony Abbott promised it would be built, now they’re in government and it’s off the table.
“Tasmanians have a right to feel like they’ve been led down the garden path.
“Rene Hidding now needs to explain exactly what his government has planned when it comes to upgrading the Midland Highway.”
