Labor-Green Alliance the Biggest Risk to Pro-Tasmanian RET

Posted on

The Liberal Government is continuing to advocate for a Renewable Energy Target that rewards Tasmania’s hydro generation investments and protects Tasmanian jobs.

Our position has been clear from day one. We want a pro-Tasmanian outcome, including reward for our Hydro generation assets, and a full exemption for our major industrials.

The reality is that there are possible RET outcomes now being floated in Canberra which set a target below the existing 41,000 but would allow a greater amount of Hydro Tasmania’s generation to count towards that target, bringing millions of dollars in extra revenue for Hydro.

Proposals of this nature have the potential to deliver huge benefits for Tasmania. It is hugely disappointing that the Labor Party has today declared that they would reject any such proposal.

We are not going to do what the Labor-Green allies have done and refuse to be open to proposals which are in the benefit of Tasmania.

Bryan Green needs to be reminded that it is his Federal Labor colleagues who have walked away from negotiations and have rubbished crossbench proposals which would see additional reward for Hydro Tasmania’s generation of renewable energy.
