Premier Will Hodgman appears to be in blissful denial over his government’s handling of the bungled pay freeze and public service cuts.

In end of year interviews the Premier has endorsed his government’s performance.

Labor Leader Bryan Green says he’s astounded that Mr Hodgman wouldn’t change the way he handled the situation.

“Just months after the election we saw 10,000 people rally against the Government’s cuts but Will Hodgman is still claiming he got it right,” Mr Green said.

“Even after the Legislative Council rejected his pay freeze, the Premier still can’t see that he got it wrong.

“It’s a very worrying sign for the future that the Liberals lack the humility to admit they could have handled the situation better.

“This government had options. It could have re-profiled its extravagant spending commitments, it could have sat down with its work force or it could have listened to the Industrial Commission.

“Instead Will Hodgman and Peter Gutwein pushed on with their ideological agenda.

“There’s no shame in putting your hand up and saying you got something wrong.

“Labor will continue to oppose the Government’s cuts to education and health because it’s not what Tasmanians were promised.”
