Government delivering jobs and investment as building approvals soar
The Liberal Government’s number one priority is jobs, which is why we are supporting the building sector and giving people the confidence to invest.
Today’s building approval figures show that our Plan is working. Compared with the seven months before the election, the seven months since the election have seen an increase in building approvals of 20 per cent. Compared to the same time last year, approvals are up by over 30 per cent, by far the biggest increase of any state or territory.
Our long-term Plan included scrapping headworks charges on new buildings and extending the first home builders boost. Combined with the increased confidence that a strong, majority Liberal Government in Tasmania has inspired, it has resulted in more homes being built, more people in work and more economic activity.
Since the election, around 3,000 jobs have been created, retail spending is at record levels and the world is now coming to realise that Tasmania is open for business.
