GENEROUS TASMANIANS MAKE CHRISTMAS BRIGHTER
Senator Catryna Bilyk thanked the people of Kingborough and the Huon Valley for their generous donations to her Christmas food and gift drive for Kingborough Helping Hands.
“I am really pleased that so many people donated items to the Kingborough Helping Hands food and gift drive, including chocolates, toys, and cosmetics,” Senator Bilyk said. “The response has been overwhelming, with donations taking up a large portion of my office”.
Kingborough Helping Hands helps people in need in the Kingborough area throughout the whole year without any Federal or State Government support.
“I would like to thank everyone who generously donated to this very worthy cause,” Senator Bilyk said. “There was particularly strong support from Kingborough and the Huon Valley, with food and gifts donated from people wanting to help their local community. It is extremely pleasing to see the spirit of Christmas alive and well in our community”.
The food and gifts donated will be distributed to families in need in Kingborough as Christmas hampers. The items are much needed as many charities have seen an increase in demand for their services this Christmas.
“While Christmas is a joyous time of year, it’s important to remember there are many in our community who need an extra helping hand,” Senator Bilyk said. “Unfortunately 2014 has been a particularly hard year on pensioners, single parents, and those on Newstart Allowance”.
